FAQs

  • Please review our Skincare Prep for Makeup Instructions with informatio for prepping your skin for your makeup appointment.

Plan to arrive to your appointment with a clean face, makeup-free. Feel free to use your daily moisturizer prior to the appointment as well, or we can use our kit skincare prepping products prior to the makeup application. We recommend using only water-based moisturizers as any oil based serums can disagree with our silicone based traditional foundation formulas.

Please review our Hair Prep for Styling Instructions on how to wash and prep your hair for your styling appointment.

For all hair appointments, all bridal party should arrive with clean dry hair washed the night prior for their styling appointment to ensure the hair is fully dry at the root and there is no dampness, as this can effect styling results particularly in already humid weather conditions.

For anyone that has wavy or naturally curly hair, you may use your routine haircare to prevent frizz after washing your hair, such as a lightweight detangling spray, but avoid any products with heavy oils, sugars, salts, or finishing or texturizing spray prior to your styling appointment.

  • We recommend wearing a shirt that is a similar color and neckline to your wedding day dress to best envision for styling considerations for your preview appointment.

Typically we allot 1hr 30min for hair and 1hr 30min for makeup for around 3 hours in total, for a hair and makeup preview appointment timing. As this allows added time with the artist to play with products, and perfect the look for the previews! We also do not recommend scheduling anything too close to the tail end of the appointment, to allow for added wiggle room as well.

Also, we prefer to receive all inspiration photos for hair and makeup, and a client selfie photo submission prior to the preview appointment as well for efficiency and overall beauty inspiration translation considerations. It’s best to take your selfies in bright natural lighting with little to no makeup on, showing your hair length in the photo as well.

  • Our artists need able table space for each assigned artist, outlets for hairstylists, and preferably rooms with a lot of natural lighting or bright lighting available.

For sanitary reasons, we do not utilize bathrooms for service areas when on-site.

We require an additional contact number → that will be another bridal party member that will be with you all for the earliest morning services.

As soon as you’ve checked in, please let us know of any gate codes, special directions, or signage encountered for our team to be aware of to ensure a smooth morning commute for on-site services on the wedding day.

  • The Blue Waves Bridal team can accomodate most wedding party sizes large and small for the big day! Please include all bridal party service count information in your inquiry submission form, and we will provide recommended team counts needed and timing considerations/recommendations for the day of.

During peak season, we do have service minimums per assigned artist required to book.

  • We accept reservations up to 16 months in advance. Weekends in May, June, September, and October in particular book quickly in the Asheville and surrounding NC Appalachia area, so it is best to contact us to reserve your date far in advance.

  • We recommend keeping these appointment separate for several reasons:

For the engagement shoot, styles often differ for hairstyling and makeup to the wedding day vision, and we prefer to treat preview appointments as a session to perfect your wedding day look with your artist → to preview how the hair and makeup will look and last for long-wear, for your all day wedding day event. Whereas with engagement shoots, the goals and styles of the hair and makeup appointment often differ and can conflict with optimizing your wedding day previews and your differing focus for the engagement shoot day.

The previews are in place to work out your vision from the nuances of the makeup elements, to trying out style ideas, face framing pieces, and hair accessory placements for your wedding day to achieve your dream wedding day looks.

And we feel some of the best results achieved in the engagement shoot, result from focuses on the separate elements, moods, color themes, styles, necessary wear time and goals of hair and makeup, photoshoot timeline, and vibes for the engagement shoot separately as well.

As each result in lifelong photographic, tangible memories we wish to honor and suit for your visions in the beauty collaboration, to celebrate and enjoy each chapter of the journey. ♡

That all being said, we are happy to work with you one-on-one during the consults to determine priorities to schedule both preview appointments and engagement shoot hair and makeup days. And if need be, we are flexible and can try to combine the two if need be / preferred.

  • Services cannot be added last minute - such as at one month prior to the wedding date.

Services can be added if the team is available and timing will allow service additions. However once again, changes to the service count need to be made prior to one month out, as once we are within 30 days of the wedding date, service additions are not accepted, due to being too last minute / our team needing to focus on the reservations made prior, in advance for the wedding booking.

Services cannot be subtracted for a lesser price from the contract, as the service agreement, on-site location, and date are all elements assigned staff has committed too in booking in for the wedding date contract.

  • We recommend steaming dresses the night prior, or before the hair and makeup services to avoid the humidity of the steamers affecting makeup and hairstyles.

All bridal party members should plan to wear a button down shirt they can easily change out of without affecting the hairstyle or makeup prior to dress changes.
